Death Call from Venus cover

Reader Beware! If you’re reading this, I got my story out, but. I may not have survived to see it happen. Now it’s in your hands. Be careful. It may have cost me my life. Don’t let it cost you yours. And don’t believe everything you’ve been told. You don’t know me. I’m Victoria Campos. I hold a doctorate in interplanetary geology. People call me a rocket scientist, but it isn’t always a compliment. Usually they mean I’m a nerd. They’re probably right. I devoted most of my life to my education and career. By the time I was thirty, I had been involved in what may be the biggest discovery in human history. So why haven’t you heard of me? Why haven’t you heard about the discovery? That is what this story is about. It began when I was fresh out of graduate school and went to work for NASA. A spacecraft orbiting Venus found something on the surface nobody could explain. Eventually, we brought one of those somethings to Earth. That caused trouble. It contained information that had been waiting a very long time for someone to find it. We found it. Maybe we shouldn’t have. It was a perfect cube, filled with code in an unknown language. The information challenged what we thought we knew about Venus and its past, but more importantly, about our own future. It also contained knowledge worth more money and power than I could possibly imagine. Some people wanted that knowledge. Others wanted it destroyed. Neither group particularly cared what happened to the scientists standing in their way.

Namely me and my associates. We were scientists. We thought facts mattered. We thought if we discovered something important, we could publish it, argue about it, prove it, and eventually let the world decide what to do with it. We were incredibly naïve. You now know something they spent a lot of time and money trying to make sure nobody knew. You have my story. Read it. Then decide for yourself what is true. Just be careful who you tell. They are still watching.
